Ahhh it’s been a month since I blogged. I have received various emails and IMs from people, annoyed that I haven’t blogged recently. Sorry L!! It’s hard to keep up blogging when life is so busy, but hopefully this will be a good catch up for everyone! (and myself) and as always, I will try to blog more frequently…but I cant make promises…
So in mid-May, we had a conference for all the other students/researchers in the region (Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Brazil), and half of them went to Salvador and half went to Uruguay. The conference was a lot of fun. Everyone did a presentation on their research. I was the second person to present, and it was a relief to get mine done so early, and it went really well. It was also really interesting to see everyone’s different projects and hear about their interests. Also, it was a lot of fun to be in Salvador, although it was my third trip there. I’m ready to see some other parts of Northeastern Brazil! But the best part about the conference by far, was meeting the other students from the other countries. I met a lot of really cool people and some of them are even coming to visit which is going to be awesome!!

Last weekend I went with my friend Chardet to the Feira Nordestina here in Rio. It’s an awesome fair with food, crafts and music from all over Northeastern Brazil. It was such a fun fair because it had great and cheap food, tons and tons of live music on different stages, in different clubs, etc, and lots of fun craft, clothes and tchotchke shops. It was a lot of fun! I definitely want to go back there!!

Also, about 2 days before I headed to the conference in Salvador, I found out through a friend here in Rio, that the first ever translated copy of Joao do Rio (the guy I’m researching)’s work was coming out. I ran around to a couple of bookstores and finally found the book, and it’s AWESOME!! Because so much of the vocabulary that he uses is antiquated, and isn’t even in the dictionary, this translated copy has been great because it captures his voice SOO well and I understand more of the intricacies and details of his stories now!
In general life is really good/great. My research/project is going well, especially with the facilitation of this translation recently. I’ve been doing a lot of fun stuff with my friends and meeting as many new people as possible.
Also, for your enjoyment here are some random Rio photos:
